Frequently asked questions

Everything you need before your first flight. All required information is also provided on vAMSYS after registration.

Is BOX Virtual free?
Yes, completely. BOX Virtual is a non-commercial community project. Registration, all tools and all events are free of charge. Note: at the time of registration you must be 18 years old.
Which routes can I fly?
You can fly every route available in our booking system — and those match the real BOX flight schedule. If the real BOX flies it, so can you.
Which aircraft can I fly?
The Boeing 777F — the only type the real BOX operates, and so do we. You may modify the registration during booking, for example to fly a specific airframe from the fleet list.
Which simulators are supported?
Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020 and FSX), X-Plane and Prepar3D/FSUIPC-based platforms. Our tracker records your flight in every major simulator.
Do I need to fly on VATSIM or IVAO?
No. Online flying is encouraged, especially for events, but offline flights are fully accepted and graded too. Resources for getting started with VATSIM are available in our Discord.
How active do I have to be?
There is no activity requirement — no minimum number of flights, no deadline after registration. Fly when it suits you; real life always comes first.
Are there restrictions on when I can fly?
No — you can conduct your flights whenever you want. Freight moves around the clock, and so can you. The nightshift is where BOX comes alive, though.
How do PIREPs and grading work?
Your flight is logged automatically and graded on landing by the vAMSYS PIREP grading system. You get transparent, detailed feedback on every leg, and the leaderboards are there if you enjoy the competition.
What is vAMSYS?
vAMSYS is the virtual airline management platform BOX Virtual runs on — in our view the best in the industry. Registration, flight booking, PIREPs, statistics and leaderboards all live there, with a single account. After registering you get access to our Crew Centre with the complete, always current timetable.
What is Pegasus and how does flight tracking work?
Pegasus is the vAMSYS flight tracker (our ACARS). Download it from the Crew Centre, start it before your flight, and it records everything automatically — position, altitude, landing rate. After shutdown it files your PIREP for you and the grading happens on the spot. No manual paperwork.
How do I book and fly my first leg?
Log into the Crew Centre on vAMSYS, pick a rotation from the live timetable and book it. Your SimBrief OFP is generated with one click, including the correct 777F profile. Fly the leg with Pegasus running, and your PIREP is filed automatically after landing.
Which callsign do I use on VATSIM?
Use the callsign shown on your vAMSYS booking — BOX with the flight number, radio callsign „German Cargo“. The commercial flight number (3S…) belongs on the schedule and in your paperwork. If in doubt, the booking page shows exactly what to enter.
Can I fly for BOX Virtual and other virtual airlines?
Yes — but double logging is not allowed: each flight may be filed with one virtual airline only. Personal tracking tools like Volanta, Project Fly or SimToolkitPro are fine in parallel.
Do I need payware aircraft or add-ons?
No. Any 777F works — freeware included — as long as it roughly matches the real performance. Payware helps with immersion, but it is not required.
Are you affiliated with AeroLogic?
No. BOX Virtual is an independent, non-commercial flight simulation community and is not affiliated with AeroLogic GmbH, DHL or Lufthansa Cargo in any way.
